PROJECT NO. 11

TITLE:

Aid for Nursing Studies for a Widow's Daughter.

PROJECT SUMMARY:

The project was to support the nursing studies of the daughter of a widow in a remote village in Kerala, India.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The widow has three children and had difficulty in educating her children. One of her daughters got admission for nursing studies. Nursing education is expensive in India especially because this student got admission outside Kerala state.

PROBLEM IDENTIFIED:

The widow could not find means to educate his daughter for nursing. If job-oriented education is not given in time, the child would later become a dependent of the society and the mother would find it difficult to arrange marriage for her.

ACTION PLAN:

The aid was only a partial help for nursing studies.

RESULTS:

This timely help provided enough support to continue the studies of the student. This would eventually lead to employment of the girl.

Educational Aid for a family in Malabar

PROJECT SUMMARY:

The project is to support a poor farmer's family in a remote village in the Malabar region of Kerala State in India to meet the educational expenses of his four children.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The head of the family is a hardworking farmer. His wife is a housewife and is sick. Their four children are good in studies. However, they had to travel 10 kilometers by bus to go to their school for studies. The head of the family became sick and had two surgery. So he could not work. His wife did not work outside home.

PROBLEM IDENTIFIED:

Because of agricultural failure and because the value of agricultural products in Kerala went down, agricultural families in Kerala have great difficulty to meet their day to day living expenses. Since the breadwinner of this family became sick, the family had difficulty in finding money to meet their day to day living expenses, educational expenses of children, and medical expenses.

ACTION PLAN:

Agape Movement offered Rs. 5,000 as partial support for the educational expenses of children.

RESULTS:

Support from Agape Movement helped the continuation of education of the children and a relief to the family.

TITLE:

Church Construction aid at Bison Valley

Parish Priest and Church Construction Committee of Bison Valley Parish.

Rs. 10,000.00 (US$ 212.77)

PROJECT SUMMARY:

The project was to help the completion of the church construction in Bison Valley.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Bison Valley is a remote village in the Hi-Range Region in Kerala state in India. The Catholic Diocese of Kottayam has a parish in this village. The church built was old and needed reconstruction with more space. The parishioners raised their own money and from others to construct the church. Since they could not complete the work with the fund they had raised, they approached Agape Movement.

ACTION PLAN:

Agape Movement offered Rs. 10,000.00 that could be used to meet the expense of carpets needed for the church.

RESULTS:

The help given to the parish could help the completion of their church in its final states.

TITLE:

House Construction aid at Ettumanoor

PROJECT SUMMARY:

The project was to help a patient in Kerala to complete his house construction.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The head of the family was working and supporting his wife and children. Since he became sick, he could not go for work. He had two surgery and still did not recover fully.

PROBLEM IDENTIFIED:

His relatives and friends helped him to construct a house because his wife and children were living at his wife's house because of lack of a stable house. However, he could not complete the house because of lack of fund for his medication, education of children, food and other primary needs.

ACTION PLAN:

Agape Movement supported him with Rs. 10,000.00 The director of KSSS assigned a project officer to supervise the progress of the completion work.

RESULTS:

The house construction is completed though all his financial needs are not met fully.

TITLE:

Medical Aid to a Family

DATE:

AID GIVEN: Rs. 1,000.00 (US$ 21.28)
PROJECT SUMMARY: The project was to support the medical expenses of a patient who has other family responsibilities.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The patient has been sick for long time. She and her husband could not go for work. They had only one daughter who was married and had gone to her husband's house to live. Because of her chronic illness she need medication to survive. She approached Agape Movement for partial help.
ACTION PLAN: After making proper study on the case through the staff of KSSS, Agape Movement issued Rs. 1,000.00 for her medical expenses.

RESULTS:

The support of Agape Movement could help the patient to purchase some medication. This help was only for temporary relief for the patient and her husband.
