PROJECT SUMMARY:
The project was to provide
partial contribution towards completion of a church in Thiroor, a remote
village in the Malabar Region of Kerala State in India.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Thiroor Church was
established by Mar Kuriakose Kunnacherry, the Bishop of Kottayam in 1992
for Knanaya Catholics who have migrated to Thiroor Village in Kannoor
District in Kerala.
PROBLEM IDENTIFIED:
The number of members of the church increased eventually and now there are
136 families with 1010 members. The small shed that was constructed with
limited fund at the beginning was not enough to accommodate all the
faithful that come for Sunday worship. So the parish committee decided to
construct a new church. Since the poor who migrated to Thiroor area are
poor, they could not meet the whole expenses for the construction. So they
approached others for help. |
ACTION PLAN:
Agape Movement with support of St. Pius X Knanaya Catholic Mission in Los
Angeles could provide a small amount for this project. The amount is the
Mission Sunday Collection of St. Pius X Mission in Los Angeles. The fund
was released through Chaithanya, the Pastoral Center of the Diocese of
Kottayam. |
RESULTS:
This partial help also helped in completing the construction of the
church. |
