PROJECT NO. 26

TITLE:

Education Aid at Palghat

DATE:

PROJECT SUMMARY:

This project is to support a widow to educate one of her three daughters for nursing.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The head of the family died a few years ago. His wife remains unmarried and tries hard to support her three daughters. She managed to get one of her daughters get married. The second daughter got admission for nursing outside the state of Kerala. Expenses for this course is high for the family.

ACTION PLAN:

Agape Movement provided some financial support to the family so that the daughter of this widow would get job-oriented education.

RESULTS:

Job orientated training of this daughter would help the family to get a job for her so that she can take care of herself and her family in the future.

PROJECT NO. 27

TITLE:

Agape Center at Cherpunkal (On Going)

PROJECT SUMMARY:

This project is to provide a center for the Village Development Group in Cherpunkal and its various self-help groups to assemble for meetings and for training programs.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The senior citizens' group of Cherpunkal Village had approached Fr. Abraham Mutholath seeking for financial assistance to construct a shed for them to gather regularly. Fr. Abraham attended a meeting of this group and then discussed the needs of the village with the Village Development Group of Cherpunkal.

ACTION PLAN:

Fr. Abraham Mutholath volunteered to construct a class room in his own land in Cherpunkal and provide it for the use of the groups. He has contributed the money through Agape Movement.

RESULTS:

The construction of the class room was completed and was inaugurated by Mr. Stephen George M.L.A. on January 10, 2003. Msgr. Jacob Kollaparambil, the president of KSSS presided over the meeting. Fr. Abraham Mutholath blessed the class room. It is now used by the groups under the supervision of the animator of the village.

PROJECT NO. 28

TITLE:

Awareness Program in Villages

DATE:

January 15, 2003

PROJECT SUMMARY:

The project was to conduct awareness programs in villages for self-help group members, leaders, and KSSS staff.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

KSSS has on an average 14 self-help groups in 76 villages. These developmental groups are functioning well. However, they need to be animated and educated regularly to keep up their good spirit in social work.

ACTION PLAN:

Fr. Abraham Mutholath along with Fr. Michael Vettikkattu, and other staff of KSSS made many field visits to villages conducting classes and clarifying questions of the members, leaders, and staff. The intensive field visit lasted one month from December 15, 2002.

RESULTS:

This was a good opportunity for Agape Movement and KSSS to learn from the groups.

PROJECT NO. 29

TITLE:

Candle Unit for CBR Members at KSSS

PROJECT SUMMARY:

The project was to establish a candle manufacturing unit at Chaithanya compound for physically handicapped people.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

KSSS had started Community Based Rehabilitation Program in 1990. This program started with identifying 40 physically handicapped children and 40 mentally retarded children from various villages with the help of trained field workers. These staff then trained the children and offered community awareness to the family members and villagers.

As second step KSSS started self-help groups for the family members of these children along with handicapped adult people in the community. Those who could work were encouraged to take up income generation programs.

ACTION PLAN:

CBR field workers and group leaders came up with a suggestion to start Candle Making Unit in Chaithanya campus as a model project for the handicapped people and sought the assistance of Agape Movement. Agape Movement accepted this proposal and provided fund through KSSS.

RESULTS:

His Ex. Mar Kuriakose Kunnacherry inaugurated the project on December 21, 2002 during CBR Samagamam held at Kallara. Fr. Abraham Mutholath blessed the project on January 7, 2003 in the presence of Fr. Michael Vettikkattu, secretary of KSSS and other staff of KSSS.

PROJECT NO. 30

TITLE:

KSSS Staff Training at Kottayam

DATE:

December 18, 2002

AID GIVEN: Rs. 16,100 (US$ 335.42)
PROJECT SUMMARY: This project was to provide training program for all the staff of KSSS at Kottayam.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: KSSS has 126 staff working in the office and in the field. They are doing an excellent work in the office and in the community.
ACTION PLAN: This project was to give them a special intensive training program on current trends in social work. The members gathered for the training on December 18, 2002 and January 10, 2003. Fr. Abraham Mutholath was the facilitator of the program.

RESULTS:

The training program helped KSSS staff to understand more about the philosophy of Agape Movement and to discuss on current approaches to social work.
